Official Images // Nike Air Max 90 "Australia"
There's more to Australian sneaker culture than the eshay's adoration of the Air Max Plus. The nation has seen its fair share of sneaker moments, from the Sydney Olympic Prestos to the recent Pass~Port Nike SB Dunk High. It also birthed the world's first international sneaker magazine, Sneaker Freaker, to ourselves — House of Heat — who operate here Down Under.
Though we only make up a small percentage of the world population, Nike will be giving us Aussies our very own collection — and who better to break the news than an Australian-based publication?
First up is the Nike Air Max 90 "Australia," which proceeds to downplay the nation's green and gold hues. Significantly more subdued that represented at international events like the World Cup or the Olympics, the hues prefer a softer green that's more aligned with the Wattle Tree, and metallic golds that channel our nation's winning spirit. All of this is sprinkled around a simple white leather and grey nubuck construct, with classic gum rubber outsoles underfoot. Special details run rife, including Nike AU branding at the tongue, special graphic insoles, and Swoosh/Sun motifs at the lateral ankle that would make Alf Stewart stay 'strewth'
See for yourself below via the official imagery below, and look for these to release alongside a handful of other like-minded Aussie releases soon.
