Arriving in stark contrast to last year’s gaudy vibrancy, the 2021 Day of the Dead Air Max 90 arrives anchored in reserved black, muted green, and earth browns. But that’s not to say it’s not festive — it’s just done differently. Here it’s black suede and brown velour lining that honors Mexican traditions of taking the trip to Mictlán, with a strike of green textile Swoosed and bright white midsoles for good measure. Though they’re mostly hairless, the faux fur texture is said to be inspired by the Xoloescuincle, a guide animal you one meets along the way, whilst embroidered skeleton designs on the forefoot and heel add to the Muertos mood.
