Nike Deconstruct the OG Air Max 90 Infrared
2020 has seen an abundance of tributes paid to the OG Air Max 90 in this, its 30th anniversary year, but before the party is done, Nike will be issuing one more — and it’s by far the most original yet.
The deconstructed offering feels as if it’s a living sketch of the OG infrared. Rough-cut edges, exposed foam liners, raw materials, and more immediately showcase the pair’s concept. Uppers of neoprene at the rear and undyed mesh at the forefoot are met in the middle by neutral suede overlays that look as if they were meant for an interior layer. The same can be said for the mudguard overlay, which stars out as suede at the forefoot before switching to a translucent sheath at the midfoot and around the heel. Eyelets and branding panels are defaced, arriving in an untextured finish, while flimsy foam tongues further the ad-hoc aesthetic. Underfoot you’ll find a staple sole unit, though its red Air cassette and surrounding outsole segments some semi-colored in by Sharpie.
