For over 40 years, Nike has been getting your ass outside, from the track to the mountain, to the streets. These days, the focus is predominately on the lifestyle market, but the Beaverton-based brand never forgets its roots. One of the early markets that blew up for Nike was it’s ACG (All Conditions Gear) lineage, which housed a family of rugged outdoor footwear and apparel in atypical color palates. It was this juxtaposition that helped the sub-brand not only stand out but flourish. These days, the landscape has changed, with footwear categories converging at rapid rates. This isn’t one of those, though. This Air Max 90 “ACG” hasn’t been retooled for treacherous trials, it merely pays tribute to the storied history of the cult-classic line.

It mimicks the line in two ways: color and material. Classic ACG textiles like ripstop and suede play featuring roles, while traditional leathers provide some color pops on the tow/vamp overlays and profile Swoosh. Of course, color is the championing factor, with signature ACG ethos of basics base layers accented with heavily saturated streaks, here seen in purple, gold, and pink. Flecked laced add an extra element of homage, and, if you hadn’t recognized the linkage by now, the pair is completed with vintage Hike Nike character hangtags.
