Nike’s well-documented focus on sustainability has lead to an abundance of eco-friendly footwear options from the audacious “Space Hippie” linage to the recent “Exeter Edition” Air Max 90s. It appears that the latter — aside from a slew of Grind Rubber-soled AF1s — is the go-to silhouette for sustainable tweaks with another new edition on the horizon, the Nike Air Max 90 “Scrap”

Arriving in a similar vein to the Nike Dunk Low of the same name, the pair presents with seemingly random placements that still manage to form the design’s original lines. Its patchwork placements are mirrored from left to right foot, including recycled twill, leather, ripstop, and more, in hues of navy, red, green, and sail.

while sundry selections arrive almost everywhere, from half toe caps to double-layering on the eyestays, heel, and forefoot — even the Swooshes arrive double-layered. Not much has changed underfoot, with a simple white and gum sole unit juxtaposed to the audacious arrangement above. The pair is touted to be made of at least 20% recycled ingredients, a statement that is most obviously sighted at the pops of Grind Rubber at the outsole toe and heel. There are many facets to the release, but none more figuratively and literally more stand-out than the rear removable Pinwheel tags — a retro logo repurposed for Nike’s Move to Zero campaign.

A US release date for this colorful Nike Air Max 90 “Scrap” is yet to be revealed, but pairs have been scheduled for a June 10th release in Asia.
