Slowly but surely, we’re starting to thee the Air Max 90 flex its creative flair. In this, it’s 30th anniversary year, we’ve seen a slew of both tonal and OG-inspired colorways that have quenched a thirst — but they’ve all been pretty typical. Things are heating up, though, with a handful of more experimental options on the way, including Undefeated’s revamped releases, and this audacious iridescent-gold snakeskin edition. This “Baroque Brown” Air Max 90 stands out, too, but for vastly different reasons.

It doesn’t need vivid colors or a glorified name attached to it to be outstanding, with materials, palates, and construction aimed at true sneaker connoisseurs. Stating out with a cream mesh base, the pair ushers in clean white leather overlays over the vamp and toe box, with matching rubber placards at the eyelets, quater and heel. Neutral suede mudguards are laid on thick, and match the chroma of the outsole, while midsoles and Air supports are painted in warming sail. Capping off the design are bold flashes of Baroque Brown on the profile Swooshes, heel branding, tongue tags, and Air casing.
