Drawing inspiration from the anatomy of the human being, Sergio Lozano’s Air Max 95’s layered approach is a result of both natural erosion and how the human body clings to its surrounding tissue. The final shoe had an upper with layered panels that resembled muscle fibers and flesh, Nylon eyelets that were fashioned after ribs, and a midsole that took after the spine. Of course, this may be difficult to see from its original colorway set, but Nike’s newest collection — the Anatomy of Air — aims to take a literal approach to Lozano’s inspiration, with skeletal and flesh-themed colorways recently gracing the model. Now it shifts its focus to the backbone, with this new Nike Air Max 95 “Anatomy of Air” (Spine) surfacing.

Here we see a literal representation of the spine at the heel panel and underfoot plate, as the surrounding muscle and sinew layers prepare to interconnect. Here, the Swoosh has opted for deep blacks, earthy browns, and bloody reds in woven textile, with specially-woven tongue mesh and hemp-colored mesh overlays forming the bulk of the release. Toe caps and tongue overlays opt for a deep brown suede, with sole units beneath opting for tonal hues, too. There are shades of fleshy pink at the tongue and insole, and a slew of blood-red accents like the ankle Swoosh, tongue tags, and Air supports to complete the design.
