Considering it was celebrating its 25th birthday, the Air Max 95 was kept pretty low key. With the first half of the year dedicated to the Air Max 90, and the second half halted by COVID delays, we’re finding that those originally-planned releases are finally now finding their feet in the early portion of 2021. The next being this whimsical Air Max 95 “Happy Pineapple” for which a playful pineapple rests prominently at the tongue to indicates that the pair utilizes recycled fruit fibres within its construction. The forefoot numbering reading “94430” continues that more subtly, as its a grocery store reference number for organic pineapples.
Here, we see an upper anchored in cream-beige twill, felt-like overlays and toe caps, and traditional mesh over the eyelets. 3M reflective strips down the tongue and tail are replaced with a soft, tonal textile to match the tones of the surrounding laces and liners. Earthy hues are whipped in at the middle-line overlay and underfoot, the latter sporting a gritty cinder finish, while insoles sport an infrequent corked finish. Completing the design is a classic crisp white midsole, and a final splash of tropical colors at the Air supports in Barely Volt, and at the eyestays in alternating muted pink and hyper jade.
