Considering it was celebrating its 25th birthday, the Air Max 95 was kept pretty low key. With the first half of the year dedicated to the Air Max 90, and the second half halted by COVID delays, we’re finding that those originally-planned releases are finally now finding their feet in the early portion of 2021. The next being this whimsical Air Max 95 “Happy Pineapple” to which we’re completely lost as to its inspiration.
The playful pineapple rests prominently at the tongue — but as to why it’s there, we don’t know. Also shroud in mystery is forefoot numbering reading “94430”, to which a quick Google search results in sweet FA. What we do know, though, is that the pair’s eccentricity is matched by its atypical use of materials. Here, we see an upper anchored in cream-beige twill, felt-like overlays and toe caps, and traditional mesh over the eyelets. 3M reflective strips down the tongue and tail are replaced with a soft, tonal textile to match the tones of the surrounding laces and liners. Earthy hues are whipped in at the middle-line overlay and underfoot, the latter sporting a gritty cinder finish, while insoles sport an infrequent corked finish. Completing the design is a classic crisp white midsole, and a final splash of tropical colors at the Air supports in Barely Volt, and at the eyestays in alternating muted pink and hyper jade.
A release date for this “Happy Pineapple” Air Max 95 is yet to be revealed, but you should expect to see pairs hit select stores and Nike.com over the coming weeks.
