Nike Air Max 95 “Japan” Arrives September 22nd

As one of the most celebrated and embraced Nikesilhouettes in Japan, the Air Max 95 is annually awarded a handful of regional-exclusive releases as a little thank you from Beaverton. The connection between Nike and Japan goes way back to their formative years, as does the Air Max 95 silhouette, which was embraced by Japan’s streetwear culture from day dot. Early last year we saw a trio of exclusives arrive for the silhouette’s 25th anniversary, including the Air Max 95 “Spring Flower”, “Cherry Blossom” Air Max 95s, and the “Mt Fuji” Air Max 95 Utility. For 2021, the tradition continued with a convenience store-styled release, and now this minimally-themed pair that channels a few key elements of the nation.

Arriving in patriotic hues of white and red with the oft-seen grey and black accents, the pair arrives anchored in a brushed cotton plisse base of bright white, before greyscale overlays of canvas and cotton run from black to white from top to bottom, with white canvas capping the toe. It continues down to white midsoles, all of which is slightly overshadowed by the eye-popping hits of red at the eyelets, Air supports, tongue branding, and mini Swoosh. Aside from the obvious color callouts, there are two more Japan-centric design cues that present; Traditional Japanese arc detailing hits the heels and underfoot midsole plate, and cherry blossom branches glaze the insoles to cement the Land of the Rising Sun scheme.
