Japanese sneaker culture has been in love with the Air Max series since it’s inception in 1987, but nothing quite intrigues their culture like the Air Max 95. The chunky, layered staple’s importance to the ‘heads across the Pacific has been celebrated on more than one occasion, whether its by way of special “Country Camo” releases or, by the influential hand of the nation’s largest retailer atmos. Last year we saw the silhouette take inspiration from the country’s most recognizable landmark — Mt Fuji — and the theme returns again in 2020
An exclusive for the nation, the University Red-based pair combines a heavy-duty mix of canvas and mesh overlays across a water-resistant upper. Hiking-style laces complement the rugged retooled outsole underfoot, one which arrives in an ice-cold translucent finish. White midsoles add to the ice-capped look, while popping Bright Spruce flashes hit the liners and branding. Capping off the release is a special-edition dustbag that adorns a Nike Air logo in the shape of the famed mountain — a logo that pops its head up again on the insoles and once more underfoot.
These dropped as a Quickstrike release early this morning at atmos Japan — but don’t expect pairs to arrive Stateside, as these will likely remain a covert Japan-exclusive release.
