Whether it is collaborations, redesigns, or — most frequently — themed collections, the Swoosh sure know how to get the most out of their retro silhouettes. The latter category of collections has recently seen themes including retro supporter wear (Sorts Specialties) to sherpa fleece-lined “Toasty” selections. Now there’s another pack on the horizon — one which encourages the wearer to get a little creative. The next to appear is this Nike Air Max 97 “Alter & Reveal” which, as the title suggests, features hidden details only visible through alteration.

Here, it’s the rub-away guards that house a hidden finish beneath, with black and grey top layers that wear away to reveal panels of teal, peach, and infrared. Elsewhere, the colors remain calm, with black denim uppers and tongues, tonal black 3M overlays, and tan suede tongue tags. Underfoot is fairly simple, too, with white and blacks peppered with hits of infrared, with white midsoles and medial overlays of white sandwiching the effect panels. The pair is finished off by several elements shared across the collection, including zig-zag stitching, and “Alter & Reveal” branded insoles.
