Where to Buy the Nike Air Max 97 “Gold Bullet” (2023)
25 years ago, Christian Tresser’s Air Max masterpiece was born. The sneaker’s radical combination of reflective overlays, curved lines, and metallic silver finishes anchored around the brand’s biggest Air bubble yet, was as avant grade as it got. Like many of Nike’s designs of the era, the shoe was inspired by industrial design, with Japanese bullet train influence so prevalent that its debut colorway quickly became known as the Silver Bullet. That OG offering has been the basis of many off-set colorways, none more famous than 1999’s Air Max 97 “Gold Bullet”
Last seen in 2017, the Air Max 97 “Gold Bullet” will be returning in 2023, as told to Brendan Dunne of Complex.
A simple alternative to the original release, the pair is often considered an original colorway due to its close ties and proximity of release to the original. It’s widely regarded as one of the best Air Max 97 colorways of all time and, with such status, has seen a handful of retrospective releases over the years, as well as a gold-dipped pair for Christiano Ronaldo and one dressed entirely in Swarovski crystals. For Spring 2023, you should expect something very closely aligned to the last release (2017, pictured below) with metallic gold mesh uppers and overlays, bold black and red accents throughout, and white midsoles encapsulating a metallic gold Air support system underfoot.
