Air Max 97 “Purple Bullet” Drops Again on October 21st
24 years ago, Christian Tresser’s Air Max masterpiece was born. The sneaker’s radical combination of reflective overlays, curved lines, and metallic silver finish anchored around the brand’s biggest Air bubble yet was as avant grade as it got. Like many of Nike’s designs of the era, the shoe was inspired by industrial design, with Japanese bullet train influence so prevalent that its debut colorway quickly became known as the Silver Bullet. That OG offering has been the basis of many off-set colorways, from the Golden Bullets to the Swarovski-encrusted releases of years past. Now it’s served up another, with this Air Max 97 “Purple Bullet” the latest OG-inspired release to arrive.
Like the OG before it, it arrives with silver mesh uppers, metallic and reflective overlays, and a singular sweep of white along the medial line. In fact, it’s almost identical to the original in every way, save the color pops which switch from red to violet. Air supports do offer up a slight variation on the original, arriving clad in color as opposed to the OG silver finish. Underfoot you can expect the same black and white outsole to complete the design.
