The stylistic trend of shoe jewelry has become the latest market-favorite finish for footwear brands. Everything from Cuban links to blinged-out lace rings — and even lucky charms — has hit a handful of classic silhouettes in order to add extra Instagram-worthy elements. The next to do so is this Nike Air Max 97 “Sisterhood” which harkens back to elementary school days and special shared jewelry between best friends.

Remember those half-half best friends necklaces from your preteen years? Nike does. The reminiscent touch is added in two ways, via an overt golden hangtag half to connect with your BFF, and insole graphics that show the two sides to the pendant.

Other than that, there’s really nothing else that remembers the retro relic — though the pair is extremely tasteful. Like the matching AF1 Shadow that was released last week, this 97 features an elegant, warm palette of sail, cashmere, peach, and coral pink, working its way in that order from the midsole up through the suede overlays, and canvas upper. Outsoles feature a peach jelly finish, while branding remains relatively simplistic throughout, with cream, coral, and metallic gold hits found through the midfoot, tongue, and heel pull.
