As we work deeper into the new year, it seems that options of the 25th-anniversary Air Max 97are appearing more frequently — especially as we approach the silhouette’s strong Spring/Summer showing. The next to surface is, on first appearance, a simple one, but a closer inspection reveals much more than meets the eye.

A quick glance at this new colorway reveals nothing out of the ordinary; grey uppers, bright white overlays, and cherry-red accents — a classic Spring/Summer selection. But there is more to it than that. Gridded mesh uppers provide a juxtaposed industrial feel whilst honoring the OG Silver Bullet at the same time. Overlays aren’t pure white, either, with a light bone tine applied to the lowermost overlay for a touch of contrast. Then there’s the outsoles, that tack on streaks of dark grey for contrast, resulting in a surprising finish to a very unassuming release.

A release date for this brand-new Nike Air Max 97 is yet to be revealed, but you should expect to see pairs hit select stores and Nike.com over the Spring/Summer season.
