Nike Air Max NM “Varsity Red” Returns Fall 2027
Nike is bringing back the Air Max NM in Fall 2027, reviving one of its more distinctive baseball-inspired sneakers from the 1990s.
Originally introduced in 1996 for Japanese pitching star Hideo Nomo, the Air Max NM stood apart from traditional baseball footwear with its exaggerated wavy upper, visible Air cushioning, and aggressive midsole tooling. The model became closely associated with Nomo during the height of his MLB career and has remained a cult favorite among fans of Nike’s ’90s sports footwear.

The comeback is expected to begin with the “Varsity Red” colorway, a red, black, and white makeup that originally released in 2011. The familiar look keeps the model’s layered upper intact, pairing bright red panels with black underlays, a white midsole, and visible Air units underfoot.
Additional Air Max NM colorways are expected to follow throughout the season as Nike brings the silhouette back into rotation for its first major run in years.
Look for the Nike Air Max NM “Varsity Red” to return during Fall 2027. A firm release date and retail price have not yet been announced.
