The Nike Air Max Plus debuted 27 years ago, but it continues to form part of the footwear design zeitgeist. Styles from the burgeoning Dn franchise, for example, reference Sean McDowell's design in a refreshing manner. And with the impending return of the Air Max Plus VII, Tuned Air aesthetics will only continue to steal the spotlight from modern proposals. Recently, the silhouette from 1998 emerged in a color scheme reminiscent of Jamaica's flag.

While unofficially linked to the Caribbean island nation, the newly-surfaced Air Max Plus features a Varsity Maize/Pine Green/White/Black' ensemble perfect for Kingston's Carnival Sunday (April 6). Palm tree-inspired TPU overlays across the upper opt for the darkest tone of the bunch, as do mudguards, leather heel panels, and sections of the tooling underfoot. The textile mesh base, however, harkens back to its original look via its bold gradient finish from forefoot to spine. What's particularly curious about the Jamaican flag-reminiscent makeover is that it features a spotted pattern from mid-foot to heel. The design detail evokes images of the Air Max Plus VII's signature rubber overlays.

Tn badges reprise their typical look, while the whale tail-shaped shank underfoot opts for a two-tone finish of the sneaker's titular yellow-and-green duo. Visible Air units also indulge in the island-appropriate update.

Enjoy official photos of the 'Varsity Maize/Pine Green'-accented Air Max Plus below. A firm Nike.com release date for the pair has yet to be disclosed by the brand, but that's expected to change before April ends. The shoe is priced at $180.
