It seems that each and every year, Nike’s Air Max linage is getting more daring than the last. That should come as no surprise from a brand built on the back of innovation, but as the line has failed to grab traction in the past decade, it begs the question, is the market ready for such advancement? With a huge push towards vintage footwear in recent times, Nike juxtaposed the desires with the Nike Air Max Scorpion — a sneaker that looks out of this world. And now, it just got even more audacious, as Nike has added removable gaiters to the bulbous-Air model.

Yes, Gaiters.

A strange move, considering the pair’s woven upper is not waterproof itself.

Alas, the Swoosh has pushed forward with the concept. But, aside from the obvious add-ons, the sneaker itself is extremely clean as a standalone. Neutral beige and grey woven uppers, suede overlays, a range of metallic finishes, and a pop of aqua elevate this well and truly above anything else we’ve seen from the silhouette this far.
