OF Post 12.19.19 // 2019 saw the triumphant return of 1999’s Nike Air Max Tailwind IV, filling up Footlocker’swalls with a flurry of options that — in my home country of Australia, at least — sold extremely well. But as we near the end of the silhouette’s 20th anniversary, we have some big news for fans of the Air-filled series: the next-in-line Nike Air Max Tailwind V will return for its 20th birthday in 2020.

The turn-of-the-century sneakers come stacked with Nike design ethos of the period; a time with also included such bangers like the Air Max Plus, Nike Shoxand Air Pegasus 2000. Like them, the shape is bulky, soles chunky and colorways plentiful in metallic silvers. Indented gridded uppers provide an illusionary effect, appearing to give the shoe more shape than it actually does, while a Tn-like sole unit provides the chunk and cushioning underfoot.

We have word on two debut pairs: on in a tonal olive, the other in Iron Grey and Light Armory Blue — there are even rumors floating around that releases will be kicked off with a Skepta collab!

As of the moment of publication, we don’t have information on when the pairs will be landing, but being an anniversary year, you can expect pairs to arrive fairly soon into the new year — likely with an epic flow-on of colorways to follow.

Update 02.14.20 Official images of the two Air Max Tailwind 5s have arrived and it’s not quite as expected. The OG warping-indented upper has been replaced by a wavy embroidery on a ripstop upper. Both pairs arrive in tonal makeups from toe to tail and come complete with 3M panels in the rear, and reflective accents on the lacestays. A release date for the pairs is yet to be announced, but are expected to arrive on Nike.com in the coming weeks.

Update 02.18.20 Euro retailers have the dup pegged for a Feb. 20th release. A Stateside drop is still yet to be confirmed, so be sure to give us a follow on Twitter, where we’ll keep you up to date with any and all updates on the duo.
