The “dad shoe” trend that dominated the mid to late-2010s didn’t completely disappear at the turn-of-the-decade, instead morphing into a mesh runner trend that’s holding steady. Nike’s Air Monarch IV was a staple of the former fashion movement, but has since been largely relegated to actual fathers. Its new “Wheat” ensemble, however, is sure to win over some younger audiences.
Akin to other Nike Sportswear offerings prepped for the months of September, October, and November, the chunky silhouette opts for a tonal brown look across its familiar, albeit divisive, build. Soft fabric replaces standard leather, elevating the model’s aesthetic, although its busy panel layout and proportions make the shoe an unmistakable Air Monarch IV. The “Wheat” look evokes images of Timberland’s iconic Premium 6-inch boot, a staple within New York City’s fashion scene. The Swoosh’s proposal isn’t meant for laborious work on construction sites, but could serve as a treat for anyone’s feet after a long day on site.
