Nike is set to revive one of its most recognizable basketball silhouettes — the Air Zoom Flight ’98 “The Glove” — with a return planned for Fall 2026. Originally introduced during Gary Payton’s prime years with the Seattle SuperSonics, the shoe’s innovative design and glove-like zip shroud made it an icon of late-’90s basketball footwear.
Payton’s signature model became known for its bold aesthetic and technical innovation. The exterior zip-up shroud was more than just a style statement — it concealed an internal lacing system that hugged the foot for a secure, locked-in feel, earning the shoe its “Glove” nickname. Beneath the hood, the sneaker housed Zoom Air cushioning and a carbon fiber midfoot plate, delivering lightweight responsiveness and court-ready support.
The upcoming 2026 reissue is expected to stay true to its roots, featuring the same black neoprene upper, contrasting white Swooshes, and midsole detailing that defined the original. The model’s reintroduction follows Nike’s continued trend of revisiting its late-’90s performance archive, including returns of the Foamposite One, Total Max Uptempo, and Zoom Rookies.
No release date has been confirmed yet, but the Nike Air Zoom Flight ’98 “The Glove” is expected to land at select retailers and Nike.com during Fall 2026.
For more on the Swoosh, make sure to checkout the Air Jordan 17 "Patent Black" which is also expected for Fall 2026.
