Available Now // 1979’s Nike Challenger Returns in Sacai-Like Palate of Red, Blue and Gold

As of late, there has been a resurgence of Beaverton OG’s hitting the shelves with continual releases of the Nike Tailwind and Waffle Racers, now another trailblazer joins the rebirth, the Nike Challenger. The Challenger was the revamped version of the Tailwind, which was tormented with issues such as weight and overall fit but in today’s modern era the shoe has found its new home as a streetwear staple, rather than a running-track superstar.

This retro icon’s revival is dressed in a palette that bears a striking resemblance to the first tri-colored sacai x Nike LD Waffle, with a like red, blue and yellow trio of hues. “University Red” adorns the shoe’s mesh and nylon upper, which acts as a contrasting backdrop to the “Coastal Blue” nubuck overlays located on the mudguards, lace stays, and heel. Where the rubber meets the road sits the “Solar Flare” midsole that is surrounded by the iconic waffle sole unit in jet black. The nostalgic design is concluded with a blue leather swoosh, branding on the solar flare exposed foam tongue, and “NIKE” located on the heel.
