With next month marking the 2022 Pride celebrations, it’s perfect timing for this Nike Cortez “Be True” to appear. Over the past two years, Nike’s Pride efforts were noticeably shrunk down due to COVID, so we’re expecting Nike to load up in 2022, with efforts like the Nike Dunk Lowand this Cortez expected to carry the campaign forward.
Like the aforementioned Dunk, this Cortez looks to a simple white build, with minimal focus on the oft-colorful hues associated with the festival. They’re still here, though, with multiple profile Swooshes embroidered on the to sides in a slew of rainbow colors. The midsole wedge and insoles do a more profound job at representing Gilbert Baker’s Pride Flag, but with tongue and lace colors, one would suggest that the pair leans closer towards Daniel Quasar’s “Progress” flag.
The pair’s shape takes on a more nostalgic feel, with heritage materials of nylon and suede anchoring the pair back to its 1972 roots
