If you’re Nike, how could you not ride the wave that is LeBron James? When the King inked a deal with the Lakers back in 2018, the sport’s biggest franchise and the league’s most elite player combined for a marketer’s dream. Since then, not only have we seen a slew of Lakers-themed LeBrons, but also a bevy of mainline drops that harness the purple and gold’s aura. Though none of those have been official collaborations with the franchise, this next-up Nike Dunk High EMB “Lakers” edges ever closer to it.
The famous streaking Lakers typeface is reworked to read “NIKE” at the heel, and done up in 3D embroidery akin to that seen on New Era caps. In fact, there appears to be an overarching headwear theme for the release, with thick twill uppers, retro tongue tags, and even “One Size Fits Most” labeling on the green insoles — a color oft used on the underside of a cap’s bill. Uppers of the aforementioned twill arrives in black, while overlays of purple leather ar matched with striking yellow Swooshes to link into the Lakers theme. Elsewhere remains relatively calm, with black tongues, laces, and liners working with white midsoles and black rubber outsoles to complete the design.
