2025 marks the 40th anniversary of the Nike Dunk—a milestone moment for one of the Swoosh's most iconic silhouettes. But after years of market oversaturation, especially with the omnipresent “Panda” colorway, it’s a celebration that may go unnoticed by the wider audience.
However, Nike has cooked up something fresh, ironically using the same black and white palette that’s fueled years of Dunk fatigue. For the first time, the brand directly references the animal behind the nickname with a special-edition Dunk Low “Panda” set for release this August.
Leaked images show the classic white leather base intact, while the black overlays receive a glossy upgrade for added dimension. Matching glossy finishes hit the tongue, while the laces display a subtle gradient effect. Behind the tongue label, Nike delivers the most literal nod yet to the shoe’s namesake, with a debossed panda face and “EST. 1985” etched into the inner leather—marking four decades of Dunk history.
Though the colorway is familiar, this release injects storytelling and detail lacking in recent drops. It’s a clever take on a modern legend that, for better or worse, has come to define the current era of the Dunk.
Pairs of the Nike Dunk Low “Panda” are expected to release on Nike.com in August 2025 for $125.
In other news from Nike, Inc., Jordan Brand will finally be reiussing the Air Jordan 11 "Gamma" for the Holiday 2025 season.
