Modern-Day Gumps.
adidasaren’t the only ones looking back to move forward. Just like the Three Stripes has done with their heritage-inspired Ultra BOOST 2019s, Nike is also looking to past classics for colorway inspiration on their modernized trainers. And here, they’ve paired up their latest and greatest, the Epic React Flyknit 2, with the bigger runner in Swoosh history; the Cortez.
The sneaker that saved Nike the first time (later saved by the Air Max 1, and in retrospect the Air Jordan 3, which you can read about here) has seen a strong resurgence over the past few years, thanks to a slew of Kendrick Lamar collabs, it’s classic styling and it’s ultra-low cost. But way back when, the Cortez was a track shoe. It’s iconic OG colorway was so ingrained in running culture, it even featured in Forrest Gump. It was a mainstay for the brand for a decade and then some, so it’s no surprise that the brand pays tribute to the OG with this all-new Epic React Flyknit 2. Nike even takes it a step further but honoring their OG name on the graphic insoles and heel pulls for a true touch of nostalgia.
Nike, Running and Sneaker fans alike can pick up this latest issue at select retailers like 43einhalb on May 23rd for $150.
