While there will always be an undying love for the leather and suede-clad classics from last century’s designs, the future of footwear lies within renewable, breathable, and often obscure fibers. Though Nike’s bottom line is bolstered by its retro line, it’s preparing for the future through many avenues, including Space Hippe, Move to Zero, and ISPA campaigns. Though the two former’s foremost focus is on sustainability, ISPA is intriguing as it has become the pinnacle experimental expression of Nike design across all categories. That means you’ll never quite know what you’re getting from the division which has no barriers. And we certainly didn’t see this one coming; A Japan-exclusive Nike ISPA Drifter Split “Indigo”

The polarizing design of the Drifter has been given a specialty, Ulta-limited makeover from the crew at Nike Japan, with each pair is indigo dyed by hand by BUAISOU in Tokushima Prefecture, a company world-renowned for their dye techniques. Each pair features a hangtag with its own unique serial number, and given that each pair is treated individually, each pair will indeed be distinctly different from the next.

Nike Japan has a release date marked for August 31st, but as with any regional release, you can expect to see these hit global aftermarket sites shortly thereafter. Until then, grab a look at the official images below.
