Kevin Durant’s annual “Aunt Pearl” editions have produced some of the most sought-after sneakers in his 15-year-old signature line. Still, more importantly, they have continued to raise awareness for the perils of breast cancer and how it can affect one-in-three people the world over. The series originated back in 2011 with the KD 4, and has been an ever-present fixture of his signature series ever since. For 2023, not only will we see the theme hit the KD 16, but also one of his earliest silhouettes, with the Nike KD 3 “Aunt Pearl” expected to hit shelves at the tail end of the year.
As has been the case with releases past, For the fourteenth time, Durant will use his platform to both honor his late Aunt and to drive cancer research funding through a partnership with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Though specifics on the pair’s presentation remain unconfirmed, it is expected that the pair will arrive in tonal pink and white hues and an abundance of special callouts to Durant’s late aunt and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The Nike KD 3 "Aunt Pearl" offers an exquisite blend of Flywire, leather, and mesh materials, showcasing varying tones of pink across the toe box, midfoot panel, and heel. A darker shade of pink graces the laces and inner lining, adding depth to the overall design. The inner tongues feature special embroidery dedicated to Aunt Pearl, adding an intimate and personal touch to the tribute. Complementing the design, a white midsole sits atop a semi-translucent, pearlescent outsole, encapsulating the theme's purity and resilience.
A release for the Nike KD 3 “Aunt Pearl” has just been confirmed by Nike SNKRS for October 27, with pairs set to arrives from 10:00 am ET for $130.
