Although Kobe Bryant's illustrious legacy is inextricably linked to Los Angeles and the five NBA Championships he secured for the Los Angeles Lakers, his roots trace back to the Philadelphia area, a connection the late basketball icon held dear. As an homage to this dual lineage, the return of the Nike Kobe 4 “Philly” from 2009 has been announced, slated for release in the summer of 2024.
Set to release a decade and a half after its initial release, the Flywire-supported silhouette preserves the original 2009 color scheme. Dominating the upper, “Varsity Royal” hues create a vibrant backdrop for the “University Red” pops that brighten the collar lining, laces, and trim of the pristine white profile swooshes. Clean, white accents complement the back half of the Zoom-cushioned sole unit. Meanwhile, reflective 3M stars mirror the original design, adorning the collar in a softened blue shade. A heartfelt detail is Bryant’s “8-23-78” birthdate, meticulously inscribed along the insoles.
The Nike Kobe 4 Protro “Philly” is scheduled for a Nike.com release on April 13, 2024 (11:00 ET), with a retail price locked at $180.
