It’s still unthinkable that Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi won’t one day walk back onto the court, but they’ll always be in our thoughts. And with Kobe’s induction to the Basketball Hall of Fame fast-approaching on May 15th, we’re blessed with another opportunity to not only celebrate the legendary career of the lifetime Laker, but be grateful that we got to even experience the man’s gifts in the first place. And though there are many of us who wish to tribute Bean and Gigi by hooping out in his signature Nike footwear lineage, product scarcity, and posthumous hype has made it extremely difficult to do so. Their ongoing negotiations with the Bryant estate will hopefully see resolve soon, but it does appear that Nike already has had more than the “two releases” (POP and Undefeated) Vanessa Bryant has claimed to be left in the queue.

Surfacing today is this special-edition Nike Kobe 6 “Mambacita” which celebrated the life of Kobe and Gigi Bryant. Instead of a classic Lakers gold and purple, this monochrome and gold arrangement actually reflects the colors of Kobe’s Mamba Sports Academy — later renamed the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation — a post-retirement program that Kobe dedicated to teaching and encouraging youth through the game of basketball. Gigi’s #2 jersey detail arrives in gold at the later heel, while the Mamba Sports Academy logo and “KOBE” rest in the rear. The snakeskin pattern extends from the upper into the inner lining, while bold white Swooshes, laces, and outsoles arrive to complete the design.

With the partnership between the Kobe Bryant Estate and Nike, Inc. reinstated, it has been suggested that the Nike Kobe 6 “Mambacita” will be the very first release from the renewed deal. Though a release date for the pair has not yet been set, mroe and more pairs are ending up in the hands of early obtainers, suggesting that a release may be sooner rather than later.. Nike Basketball has revealed that the Mambacita Kobe will release in two ways: first, it will drop via Nike SNKRS Exclusive Access on May 1st – the date of Gigi Bryant’s Sweet 16 Birthday. Nike has stated that members who “…have embodied the Mamba Mentality from the beginning and the young hoopers that have pushed Gigi’s love for the game forward…” This is under the presumption that those who have previously engaged with the Kobe lineage through their account will likely get preference. The sneakers will release via SNKRS Pass in the Los Angeles area beginning today (April 29th). Those in the area will have access to the Draw-like entry for a chance to purchase the shoes. The draw window will open at a random time on April 29th, with pick-ups available on May 1st.
