The Nike Kobe 9 Elite Low has re-entered the spotlight with the announcement of its Protro version. Following the release of the “Halo” colorway in September—the model’s first appearance since 2014—we now have a first look at the “Beethoven” Protro, set to launch next year.
Staying true to the original 2014 design, the Kobe 9 Elite Low Protro incorporates modern performance enhancements, including a dash of Nike React technology in the midsole and an extended traction pattern underfoot. As the name suggests, the design is inspired by Beethoven, specifically the black and white piano keys that characterize his music. Kobe Bryant often drew inspiration from various muses throughout his signature sneaker line, and Beethoven was one of them. Notably, in 2013, Kobe tweeted that Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata calms him down when he reaches his breaking point, further highlighting the connection between the two icons.
While a solid release date for the Kobe 9 Elite Low Protro “Beethoven” has not yet been confirmed, early reports from @mambakixx and @solekobe suggest it will arrive in April 2025.
