A permanent fixture during the Nike Basketball “What The” age of the early 2010s, the Nike LeBron linage has been one of the few to carry on the mash-up tradition into the new decade and beyond. And while this is not a traditional mix-and-match effort (as both shoes are mirrored in blocking), this Nike LeBron 18 “What The” boasts a bevy of accents that feel all-too-familiar.
The titular blue woven upper, with its golden-yellow forefoot Checks, is reminiscent of traditional Minneapolis Lakers gear — a theme explored early on in the King’s tenure in Los Angeles. Rainbow soles first seen on the LeBron 4 “Fruity Pebbles” and later the “What The 11” return, as too does the Hot Lava tribute seen on the LeBron 16, again here at the heel’s pink splatter. Other notable inclusions are pink laces of the “South Beach” LeBron 8, “Watch the Throne” lace locks — here in an icy-translucent plastic — and even a nod to the ultra-rare Nike LeBron 5 “Yankees” at the heel bootie.
There’s a lot more to be found, with several hints at past releases splayed across the insoles, so take a look at the official images of the Nike LeBron 18 “What The” here below, and look for these to roll out in Asia on April 1st, followed by a release in the US on May 29th.
