There are a few recurring themes within LeBron’s sneaker arsenal, from Sprite to Dunkman, and Graffiti to the What The. Seen for less often is the Hardwood Classic, a thematic that aims to capture the essence of retro basketball kits. Back in 2009, Nike visited the theme for a PE inspired by throwback Cavs jerseys. In 2010, we saw it again on the LeBron 8 — a sneaker the finally saw a retail release earlier this year. Now it’s appeared on the King’s newest signature sneaker, the LeBron 19 “Hardwood Classic”, with this release looking somewhere between the 1960s and 2010s for inspiration.

Though the pair doesn’t exactly pinpoint the jersey it refers to, it does show some love to the black-based jerseys worn in Kobe’s twilight years, whilst bright royal blues and whites are reminiscent of Elgin Baylor’s era of the early 60s. The mostly black-based release is brightened up by white netted overlays, collar and vamp trim, and the aforementioned midsoles, whilst select pops of yellow up top work with the blue tread underfoot in adding some much-needed pigment. To confuse you even more, the insoles arrive in a Lakers purple, which both fit and don’t fit the release.
