Nike LeBron 19 “Space Jam” Drops in July

Though it’s not true for all things (especially signature sneaker lines) the colloquial saying ‘all things get better with age’ certainly rings true for LeBron James’ Nike linage. One would have thought that, by his 18th signature sneaker, the best would be behind him. But fittingly, like his career, the LeBron signature line is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. Revealed today as part of the wider Space Jam: A New Legacy Converse and Nike collection, the Nike LeBron 19 returns to vintage, market-leading form. And he does so in the best way he knows how: in very bold fashion.

The Nike LeBron 19 once again pursues the basketball-specific Air Max cushioning package, a tech that the King has clung to for well over a decade. For the Nineteen, Nike has devised a dual-chamber Ait unit that’s combined with Zoom Air at the forefoot for a brand new feel underfoot. For such futuristic tech — and with the Space Jam franchise not of this world — the design had to follow suit. Based on the first two colorways to surface, it’s apparent that Senior Designer Jason Petrie achieved this without looking too far from the line’s DNA, with immediate comparisons drawn to both the LeBron 9 and the LeBron 13. The former, which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, is noted on the 19’s high-reaching tongue and the exterior heel, whilst the 13, with its aggressive overlays and split sole unit, are almost certainly a role player in the pair’s inspo.

Introduced is the “Sweatsuit” colorway, which features maps of the Nike World Headquarters and the Warner Brothers lot, and the “Tune Squad” colorway, designed to match the iconic jerseys worn by LeBron and his crew in the upcoming film. The entire Space Jam: A New Legacy collection will release in July 2021; the LeBron 19 will retail at $200. The film hits theaters on July 16th, 2021, and on HBO Max for 31 days from the theatrical release.
