Nike’s New Wave.
We’ve just entered the third month of the year, but we’re still not sure what direction Nike wants to take us on. Unlike adidas, who are strongly focusing on heritage-inspired modernized silhouettes like the Nite Jogger, Nike is dishing up a mix of new, old and combos of both. Ultra-futuristic options like the Air Max 720 or React Element 55 play off the Swoosh’s retro range of Air Maxs perfectly, but all-new vintage-inspired models like the P-6000 throw a spanner in the works. It’s not like they’re bringing in any new tech to the throwback-themed sneakers, just straight 90s steez. And that’s good if you’re a fan of Seinfeld-era sneakers.
For the P-6000, Nikecalls on design langue that harkens back to the mid-90s: full-length synthetic mesh underlays, metallic synthetic-leather overlays and clunky sole units — all arriving in whites and light greys. The pops of color keep the pair from looking like a shuffle boarding special, arriving in red and gold on the branding and heel, and black hits throughout the entire design — and it wouldn’t be 90s-flavored without a classic black rubber outsole.
There is a black pair also on the way, but this metallic/white make-up will be hitting select stores and Nike.comon March 7th.
