Beginning in 2018, when the NBA allowed players to run wild with shoe colorways, players went extreme on an idea that was already long-rooted in basketball culture: Shoes as canvases for player expression. The new colorway rule simply made the possibilities bigger, more obvious and with added dimension. Shoes could become on-court musings of players’ off-court lives. Paul George has regularly done this in his PG signature line, showing his interests in gaming (especially through PlayStation), his hometown of Palmdale and his love of fishing — and now it’s all about securing the bag. PG’s debut colorway of the Nike PG 4won’t be the previously-previewed Black/White edition, instead, it will be a co-branded “Gatorade” release that we’re sure PG took a big cut on.
It features a Navy overlay decored with faux condensation, and is contrasted by Sprite-like greens and light blues. Sitting prominently on the tongue is the sports drink’s G motif, while orange laces and forefoot PG logos further the connection. Underfoot you’ll find a two-tone sole unit — green around the outskirts and solid navy down the middle, and the pair is complete with two-tone heel pulls and bright blue Swooshed on the lateral.
The purple Gatorade colorway will kick things off for PG, releasing on January 17th at select stores and Nike.com, and is followed by the previously-previewed Black/White edition on January 24th
