Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Missed out on last year’s Supreme x Nike SB Gato? Don’t sweat it, the Swoosh has got you covered with this hype-inspired take on the often overshadowed silhouette.

With Nike SB‘s marquee silhouettes — the Blazer and the Dunk — stealing a fair proportion of the limelight, it’s easy to forget about the Gato — that was until the New York-based hype machine jumped on board for a collaborative effort on the one-time Soccer training shoe. That pack from August 2019 included four colorways; Black, White, Blue, and Red, the latter not too dissimilar from this next-up offering from the Swoosh’s Skateboard division. It sports a similar, but more vibrant, red leather upper, white midsole and profile Swoosh, and gum rubber outsole — but there are a few minor tweaks to this rendition. The Gold ribbed underlays are ripped out in favor of a lightweight mesh, with suede toecaps replace the reptile-textured featured on the Supreme collaboration. Profile red Swoosh outlines have been removed, Nike branding is restored on the heels and there are subtle changes to the midsole and sole’s toe stitching.

Same-same but different, the University Red/Gum Nike SB Gato is available right now from select Swoosh stockists like Caliroots for under $100.
