Nike Racing Evolves with the Vaporfly 4 and Streakfly 2

Nike continues to push the boundaries of running innovation with the release of the Vaporfly 4 and Streakfly 2, two cutting-edge racing silhouettes designed to help runners unlock peak performance. Powered by Nike’s legendary system of speed, both models incorporate a proprietary blend of ZoomX foam and a carbon fiber Flyplate, ensuring maximum energy return and propulsion. As Nike Racing continues to refine its lineup, these latest additions cement the brand’s position at the forefront of high-performance running footwear.

The Vaporfly 4, the lightest iteration in the franchise’s history, builds upon the innovations that sparked the super shoe revolution eight years ago. Developed with insights from elite athletes like Joshua Cheptegei and Mohammed Ahmed, this model balances the stability of the Vaporfly 3 with an even softer ride, making it an optimal choice for distances from 5Ks to marathons. The shoe features an updated Flyplate curvature, refining how runners engage their foot and ankle for increased leverage, while the lightweight ZoomX foam midsole enhances its overall energy return. Weighing in at 10% lighter than the Vaporfly 3 and 20 grams lighter than the original Vaporfly (2017), the newest model strategically eliminates unnecessary foam, improving both fit and weight distribution.

Canadian distance runner Mohammed Ahmed, who played a key role in testing the Vaporfly 4, praised the shoe’s advancements, calling it the "ideal Vaporfly." He emphasized its lightweight feel, responsiveness, stability, and fit, noting that it delivers the best carbon-to-foam balance Nike has created to date.

For runners focused on shorter distances, Nike introduces the Streakfly 2, an evolution of its lightweight road-racing model. Designed specifically for the mile, 5K, and 10K, the Streakfly 2 marks a significant leap forward with its full-length Flyplate, a first for the line. Built on the last of a track spike, it features an aggressive stance with a 4mm heel-to-toe offset, pushing runners forward with explosive speed and control. The ZoomX midsole foam enhances both flexibility and durability, ensuring that the shoe delivers elite-level performance while remaining featherlight.

Nike athlete Jessica Hull highlighted the Streakfly 2’s versatility, noting how it allows her to run all-out intervals and tempo sessions without switching to spikes—helping maintain fresh legs for subsequent training days. Similarly, Cooper Teare described it as a “renaissance for racing,” praising Nike’s updates to the lacing system, weight distribution, and overall feel. Weighing just 126 grams—approximately 40 grams lighter than its predecessor—the Streakfly 2 is built for pure speed.

Both the Vaporfly 4 and Streakfly 2 will be available globally starting in March 2025 via Nike.com and select retailers.

These models will join Nike’s high-performance running lineup, which includes the Alphafly 3 marathon shoe and Zoom Fly 6 super trainer, ensuring that runners of all levels have access to the latest advancements in racing technology.
