The Nike Vomero 18 has kicked off a whole wave of new runners thanks to its highly-comfortable ride. For its latest ensemble, the silhouette has taken on a color scheme and design details inspired by the original LD-1000 running model from 1977—all part of the Nike International Running Pack.
Developed to celebrate heritage with modern performance products, the collection sees four different styles—Pegasus 41, AlphaFly 3, VaporFly4, Vomero 18—reimagined as vintage running model's from the Swoosh's storied past—Waffle Racer (1977), Sting (1978), Pre Montreal (1975), LD-1000 (1977). The Nike Running team unveiled the lineup ahead of the track and field championships in Tokyo, a gesture honoring the brand's decades-long connection to Japan and its community's appreciation of old school performance offerings.
"Our goal in designing the Nike International Running Pack was to represent the deep relationship between Nike and Japan, dating back to our first years as a brand," shared Katsunobu Asayama, lead designer of the footwear collection, in an official press release. "We wanted to meet Japanese runners’ appreciation for vintage styles by looking into our archive and applying some of our classic designs to modern Nike Running silhouettes — bringing that vintage look the community loves to our latest footwear innovations."
