Nike continues to quietly expand its elevated running catalogue with the arrival of a new Vomero Premium, a pared-back blacked-out release that leans heavily into early-2000s Air Max design language. While the silhouette itself is modern, the detailing feels deliberately familiar — particularly for anyone who remembers Nike’s more experimental era of cushioning and texture.

At first glance, the shoe reads as understated. A tightly woven black mesh upper sets the foundation, layered with subtle tonal panels that introduce depth without disrupting the monochrome finish. The most noticeable accent arrives at the midfoot, where a small chrome Swoosh sits cleanly against the dark upper. It’s a restrained detail, but one that immediately recalls the Air Max Plus VII — specifically its use of spotty textile textures and scaled-down branding in place of louder sidewall treatments.

That reference feels intentional. Where the Plus VII replaced the TN’s flame cages with softer textures and a mini Swoosh, this Vomero Premium opts for a similarly minimal approach, forgoing overt branding in favor of quiet material play. There’s no AIR callout running along the sidewalls here, allowing the silhouette’s shape and tooling to do the heavy lifting.

Underfoot, the exaggerated Vomero midsole remains the focal point. The stacked cushioning setup and elongated Air units deliver the kind of visual bulk that’s become synonymous with Nike’s current performance-meets-lifestyle direction. Finished entirely in black, the sole unit reinforces the shoe’s no-frills attitude while keeping it adaptable for daily wear.

This Vomero Premium doesn’t chase nostalgia outright, but it clearly borrows from a period when Nike experimented with texture, proportion, and restraint. The result is a runner that feels current without being loud — one that rewards a closer look rather than demanding attention.

Expect the Nike Vomero Premium with chrome mini Swoosh to release ahead of summer’s end via Nike.com and select retailers.
