Kyrie Irving’s late mom Elizabeth lost her battle with breast cancer when the All-Star point guard was only four years old. It’s never a good time to lose your mom, but at just 4? That’s heartbreaking. So it’s no surprise that the event has left a lasting impact on Irving, who has consistently honored her throughout his career, writing her name and the date she passed on sneaker’s he has laced up during games, to a fully-fledged series of sneaker collaborations with New Jersey sneaker store Sneaker Room dating back to 2017.
Sneakerroom founder Suraj Kaufman, who also lost his mother at an early age, has formed a tight bond with the Brooklyn Nets star over the years, with the two designing some of the most heartfelt sneaker collaborations from the past decade. They will return again in 2022 with a special four-piece presentation: the Sneaker Room x Nike Kyrie 7 “Mother Nature” Collection
Kaufman tells @boardroom “We were talking about mothers and how we come to be: Mother Nature. Mother Earth. Let’s touch that aspect … Let’s touch the elements.” These elements of land, sea, air, and fire are clearly displayed across the two pairs, with illustrations at the heel done in a manner you’d see in children’s books. The Swoosh logos are covered in heart logos, continuing the “I Love You Mom” tradition – one that has transformed into a charitable movement that has raised over half a million dollars.
Both pairs will release on snkrroom.com next week; 1,996 pairs of the green + yellow set will be available for $175, and only 525 pairs of the blue + orange edition are priced at $250.
