The role of digital collectibles in the sneaker space is still in its infantry stages, but Nike — as they have always managed to do with any new technology — is blazing the trail.
The leading sportswear company has recently announced a unique collaboration with the virtual sneaker brand RTFKT and celebrated Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, introducing a special Air Force 1 collection that combines cutting-edge technology with iconic design.
For the first time, Murakami's signature colorful motifs will be officially featured on custom sneakers, with two exclusive Nike Air Force 1 styles up for grabs: the "Murakami Drip" and the "Murakami DNA." These limited edition digital collectibles, boast 4,349 copies between both styles, will be available as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
While the sneakers retain the iconic Air Force 1 sole unit, Murakami's vibrant, multi-colored patterns adorn the uppers. Additionally, each collectible will feature the RTFKT bolt and Nike swoosh logos, as well as Clone X lace dubraes.
NFT owners will have the exceptional opportunity to forge their virtual collectibles into physical copies of the Murakami Air Force 1s.
The OpenSea platform has listed the "Murakami Drip" NFT at 0.51 ETH and the "Murakami DNA" NFT at 4.99 ETH.
Sneaker enthusiasts and NFT collectors alike can look forward to the forging period for this exclusive collaboration, which will take place between April 24 and May 8.
