There’s a new Nike Dunk in town, and it’s coming by way of Jun Takahashi’s famed streetwear label. Appearing today, the UNDERCOVER x Nike Dunk High “UBA” — “Undercover Basketball Association” — is his third edition of the High Top for 2021 — and there are rumors of even more on the way.
Earlier this year, Takahashi unveiled a duo of CHAOS/BALANCE Dunk Highs for their impending Fall/Winter catalog. And while those two appear to form part of a succinct collection, this brand new offering from the brands seems to be a standalone release. With the two former riding down a lane blazed by Pharrell and his affirmative branding, this new release looks to honor the silhouette’s hardwood roots with an “UNDERCOVER Basketball Association” play on the NBA.
Instead of the famed Red, Royal, and White of the Association’s logo, UNDERCOVER opt for Nike’s famous on-court “Bred” coloration. Uppers of heavily tumbled red leather, while overlays arrive in a smooth, glossy black. Bright white, oversized UBA/Undercover Basketball Association branding on the lateral ankle is countered on the medial side by traditional UNDERCOVER wordmarks. More whites arrive underfoot, with a sole unit clad in the color — the midsole exclusively hit with black fleck. Laces are white, too, while insoles revert to red with black and white co-branding at the heel.
