Nov. 28, 2026 marks the fifth anniversary since the passing of Virgil Abloh. The late creative's Virgil Abloh Archive™ and trusted partner, NIKE, Inc., will bring a truncated version of the Virgil Abloh: The Codes exhibit to The Shed in New York City shortly after to continue celebrating his legacy.
The exhibit will run between Dec. 10 and Jan. 23, 2027, and will feature "nearly 1,000 objects that illuminate Abloh’s work, creative process and enduring influence," according to an official announcement from the Swoosh. As with other retrospectives dedicated to the life and work of the Illinois-native, The Codes at The Shed includes fashion, footwear, art, architecture, graphic design, and more, ranging from prototypes and sketches to archival materials.
"As we mark the fifth anniversary of Virgil’s passing, this exhibition is an opportunity to honor his tireless spirit and how he changed the way people think about creativity, collaboration and what is possible," shared Shannon Abloh, Founder, the Virgil Abloh Archive™ and the Virgil Abloh Foundation, in an official press release. "Virgil believed in opening doors and making knowledge accessible, and [The Codes] brings that spirit forward by sharing his process, his ideas and the extraordinary breadth of his work with new generations. His legacy lives on through the people he inspired and the opportunities we continue to create in his name."
The New York City-held edition of The Codes has been curated by Chloe Sultan and Mahfuz Sultan. Both curators are interested in extending and developing the story that's been told at earlier Miami and Paris-hosted exhibits of The Codes.
A retail experience at The Shed has been co-curated by Justin Saunders of JJJJound.
Tickets for Virgil Abloh: The Codes will be made available to the general public beginning Friday, Oct. 23, through TheShed.org.
