The Nike Air Max 95 “110” is an Ode to London Sneaker Culture
Although a staple silhouette the world over, the Air Max 95 truly found a home in London, where trainer heads embraced the anatomically-inspired sneaker like no other. So much so that its colloquially known as a “110” — a reference to the £110 price tag. Now Nike will look to honor the British streetwear slang, with a special-edition Air Max 95 “110” that draws on the surroundings of the city that has adopted the sneaker as their own.
Arriving in a myriad of materials, including multiple meshes, tumbled and textured leathers, and shaggy suede, it’s easy to see that quality construction was at the forefront of the design. Cooling grey on the mesh, lower three overlays, and toe cap mimics that of the city’s sweeping concrete, while warmer browns throughout are reminiscent of historical stone buildings and bridges. furthermore, cathedral-esque scripture on the insole adds to the archival aesthetic. Complimentary hits of orange are found on the tongues, Air supports and outsole shank — possibly in reference to London’s epic scenery in Richmond Park in Autumn — and the pair is capped off with a stark black midsole and dark gum rubber outsole.
