The Kobe 4 “Draft Day” Returns for Charlotte’s All-Star Weekend
Kobe Bryant was not always a Los Angeles Laker. Which may be hard to comprehend for those younger than 19 or 20 years old. But you can’t question Mamba’s commitment to his team, because he had no role in his draft day trade to the Lakers. Mamba, who was selected at pick 13 by the Charlotte Hornets, was traded immediately to the Lakers who were looking to trade their starting center Vlade Divac for a player’s draft rights in order to free up salary cap space to chase down free agent Shaquille O’Neal. The deal with Charlotte was locked in weeks before the draft, and while the Hornets never really had Bryant on their radar, in hindsight, they convincingly lost that deal.
22 years on from that pivotal moment in Kobe’s career. Nike Basketball will be celebrating by adding Bryant’s Zoom Kobe 4 signature shoe to their Protro series in the Hornets-flavored “Draft Day” colorway. Dressed in vintage Hornets hues of White, Orion Blue, and Varsity Purple color sccheme, the release is fitting, coinciding with All-Star weekend’s return to Buzz City.
Mamba fans (and Hornets fans who have finally gotten over their huge L) can pick up the Nike Zoom Kobe 4 Protro “Draft Day” on February 15th from select Nike Basketball retailers and Nike.com. Stay tuned for a comprehensive Where to Buy Guide!
