Where to Buy the Concepts x Nike SB Dunk Low “Purple Lobster”
Here’s where you can snap ’em up.
2018 has been a big year for the dunk — and when we look back we will pinpoint the sneaker resurgence down to Nike’s revisitation to one of the most sough after series of Dunk designs in history — Concept’s “Lobsters”
Cambridge’s Concepts sneaker boutique has a ton of top-shelf collaborations in their back catalogue, but none have been more impressive than it’s series of “Lobster” Dunks that kicked off in 2008. Back then Collbaorations truly meant something — and this paid homage to their local fishing community, to which the locale was built off, and the various hues of it’s caught crustaceans.
Concepts designed the popular lifestyle/skate silhouette with every minor detail in mind; speckled leather uppers, picnic-table lining, an thick rubber bands at the toe-boxes. The OG red pair dropped in 2008, with the blue version following just a year later. There is the yellow version, the ultra-rare friends-and-family pair, createdto commemorate the successful partnership.
Ten years later, Nike SB and Concepts have returned to the popular theme with the Purple Lobster Dunks, said to be followed by a “Green Lobster” as well as an “Orange Lobster” pair that is rumored to be a friends and family exclusive.
Concepts remains authentic to key design features of the original 2008 Red Lobster release. Deon Point explains why: “In terms of classics, the Dunk is amongst the elites. The OG SB in particular, has a devout following, so we opted for the original tooling. We even forewent CONCEPTS branding on the padded tongue, staying true to our first collaboration. I think the details separate it from the rest. The metallic swoosh, metallic speckle, picnic lining, and rubber brands, have all become iconic over the years.”
The “Purple Lobster” Dunk will release on Friday, December 14th exclusively at Concepts in-store (NYC and Cambridge) and online (11AM EST). A skate-shop only release will go down on Saturday, December 15th, followed by a wider release on December 17th via Nike SNKRS.
