What do you get when two brands founded almost 6,000 miles apart and in two different generations come together over a mutual appreciation of and respect for each other's cultures? You get the Mundo Domingo x Salomon XT-4 OG sneaker collaboration.
For the uninformed, Mundo Domingo is a multi-faceted project founded by Nicholas Meehan and Alberto Rassam in Mexico during Summer 2021. One of the agency's most visible aspects is Tacos Domingo, a chain of taquerias serving up Northern Mexico-style tacos. Meehan, Rassam, and company operate locations in Mexico City, Monterrey, and New York City, delivering both an intentional menu of items and the warmth of their home country, symbolized by the heavy use of a bright yellow sun.
Another piece of the Mundo Domingo universe is the Guía Domingo, a carefully-curated coffee table book series that celebrates the taco as a cultural staple and culinary masterpiece in Mexico.
The attention to detail that has gone into both platforms is central to the Salomon XT-4 OG by Mundo Domingo.
Spearheaded by Rik Bracho, the collaboration's design sees a straightforward yellow-and-black makeover. The vibrant color scheme draws inspiration from Mundo Domingo's iconic sun logo and applies it to a performance model born in the French Alps. To drive home the pair's collaborative nature, the XT-4 OG consists of Salomon branding done in the same typeface Tacos Domingo uses for its restaurants. Furthermore, Mundo Domingo's sun logos appear on the left shoe's tongue and on both insoles.
