    Jovani Hernandez

Jovani Hernandez, Lead Writer @ House of Heat°

I’m the lead writer at House of Heat°, having joined in January 2025.

    What I Cover

On a daily basis, I cover breaking news, upcoming releases, and recent product launches as they relate to sneakers, sportswear, and their related worlds. One of my favorite things to do at House of Heat° is play historian, particularly when I can bring together my fandom for sports, culture, and performance-informed footwear design. I also research and develop features for the site, oftentimes referencing data and discourse on social media to ideate relevant stories.

As Lead Writer, I’ve interviewed streetwear veteran Jeff Staple, longtime Nike, Inc. footwear designers Wilson W. Smith III and Tate Kuerbis, and burgeoning creative Jae Tips. Additionally, I spearhead sponsored content for a global network of partners.

My writing interests include: long-distance running and its footwear; football (specifically Arsenal FC); New York City or Mexico-related stories; and Nike Basketball and Sportswear products popular between 2007 and 2014.

    My Background

Before joining House of Heat°, I spent four years contributing to Sneaker News, working my way from Junior Editor to Senior Editor. While there, I wrote, researched, and proofread a total of 5,800 posts; some included conversations with Reebok CEO Todd Krinsky and Founder of The Whitaker Group, James Whitner. I also contributed a retrospective on NIGO’s 20-year history with adidas to Nice Kicks. Since August 2021, my words have appeared in every edition of ALL GONE: The Finest of Street Culture.

Prior to entering the sneaker and street culture media space, I spent almost three years as an Onboarding Specialist and Account Manager at Uber, assisting hundreds of drivers in the New York Tri-State area.

I was born and raised in the Bronx to two immigrants from Puebla, Mexico. I graduated from Boston College with a degree in English literature. I’m also fluent in Spanish, and live in Mexico City with my wife.
